Common Dental Emergencies

Severe Toothache
Persistent or throbbing pain may signal infection. Rinse with warm salt water, floss gently to remove trapped debris, and call us right away.
Knocked-Out Tooth
Hold the tooth by the crown (not the root), rinse gently, and place it back in the socket if possible — or in milk. Call us within 30 minutes for the best chance to save it.
Chipped or Broken Tooth
Save any pieces, rinse with warm water, and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. We'll restore the tooth same-day when possible.
Lost Filling or Crown
Keep the area clean and avoid chewing on that side. Bring the crown with you — we can often re-cement it the same day.
Abscess or Swelling
A dental abscess is serious and can spread infection. Rinse with mild salt water and call us immediately for urgent care.
Soft-Tissue Injury
For cuts to the lips, gums, or cheeks, rinse with salt water and apply pressure with gauze. Call us — or visit the ER if bleeding doesn't stop.
What To Do Before You Arrive
- 1Call 905-830-1230 so we can prepare for your arrival.
- 2Rinse with warm salt water to clean the area and ease discomfort.
- 3Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek to reduce swelling.
- 4Take over-the-counter pain relief as needed — avoid placing aspirin directly on gums.
- 5Bring any broken tooth fragments or lost restorations with you.
